Ileen Pat Howell obtained a BA in Sociology and a BSW Hon. Degree from York University; a Masters Degree in Social Work and a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Administration from Wilfred Laurier University.

Pat, a retired Social Worker/therapist, was employed with the largest Psychiatric  and Addiction facility in Canada for many years. She has various specialties in the field of Psychiatry, which allowed her to treat a variety of clientele diagnosed with mental illnesses. Her specialties include Family, Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.  Pat worked with clients who were diagnose with Borderline Personality Disorder.  She dedicated her time to teaching them skills that empowered them to function successfully in their every day lives.

In addition to all of Pat’s other work, her community involvement included her being President of the Markham African Caribbean Canadian Association (MACCA), from 1999 to 2003. Prior to her Presidency, she served in the position of Vice President, Secretary, Director of Health and Social Issues, and again as President from 2012 to January, 2017.

Pat is the recipient of the Queen’s Diamond and Golden Jubilee Award, York Region Police Services Board Award for Civic Leadership, Diane Humeniuk Award, Planet Africa Award, Harry Jerome Award, Apple Creek Adventist Church Award for Outstanding Role Model in the Black Community, and a Women of Distinction Award from the City of Markham, to name a few.

Pat was appointed to the Consent and Capacity Board 9 years ago where  she continues to work in the role of an  adjudicator.
